ABOUT:
Standup Point Camp, located on the remote Tasman Peninsula, is a thoughtfully designed temporary accommodation structure that prioritises minimal site impact. Conceived as a prefabricated, relocatable build, the project was developed to reduce environmental disturbance while also streamlining construction time and costs—allowing the landscape to remain the hero.
The project was delivered through a collaborative owner-builder process, marked by constant dialogue, sketching, and problem-solving throughout construction. What began as a steep learning curve evolved into a highly refined outcome, with the completed wilderness toilet ultimately recognised with a People’s Choice Architecture Award—proof that careful design thinking and persistence can deliver exceptional results, even at a modest scale.
